Rio Grande Regional Hospital offers comprehensive women’s health services, providing a full range of ob/gyn expertise, from prenatal care and labor and delivery through postpartum care.

Since 1982, we have been serving the healthcare needs of residents in McAllen, TX, and the Rio Grande Valley. Rio Grande Regional Hospital is proud to be an HCA-affiliated hospital committed to providing quality healthcare to our community.

Gynecology Services

Our Women’s Services Department works in conjunction with our Rio Grande Women’s Clinics, which are available in five locations around the Rio Grande Valley, including two in McAllen. Women in the community can find a full range of services for well woman care and pregnancy monitoring at the clinics and deliver their babies at our main hospital. Caring for Women, Caring for Babies

Our prenatal care area is staffed by trained healthcare professionals and experienced nurses, equipped to provide the best care to mothers and their babies. Our caring and loving nursing staff provides quality care to your baby, whether at your bedside or in our newborn nursery.

The labor and delivery unit at Rio Grande Regional Hospital is dedicated to ensuring the comfort and well being of both mother and child. That includes:

  • High-risk pregnancy—suites dedicated for women who need bed rest and/or monitoring before birth
  • Labor and Delivery—private birthing suites that allow for labor, delivery and recovery all in the same room
  • Dedicated C-Section operating rooms with specially trained staff—in case it’s needed
  • OB PACU (post-anesthesia care unit)—a specialized recovery area
  • On-site lactation specialists available to help with breastfeeding education and support
  • Full-time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) coverage specifically for our Labor and Delivery and Women’s Services area
  • 24/7 Neonatologist coverage in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

All nursing staff in Women's Services are trained in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and breastfeeding education. Rio Grande Regional Hospital is a designated Texas Ten Step facility, dedicated to increasing breastfeeding and its duration for mothers and babies. Certified lactation consultants (IBCLC) are available to help you breastfeed and serve as resources during your stay.

Lactation consultants are also available to advise all new mothers on breastfeeding—no matter where they delivered—for no charge.

We are family centered, developmentally oriented and strive to meet your family’s individual needs. Our Online Registration for Labor and Delivery helps streamline the process, saving you time when you arrive at the hospital.

Postpartum Care

The Postpartum Care Unit provides peaceful surroundings for women after the birth of their babies. These private rooms help reduce stress and maximize comfort while women adjust to the changes of a new baby. Within the unit are the seven Cameo rooms, specially designed with plush furniture, flat screen TVs and well-appointed bathrooms.
