From prenatal to postpartum, Rio Grande Regional Hospital is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care. We offer a full range of maternity and childbirth services to support you at every step, including specialized care for high-risk pregnancies and an advanced nursery for premature and critically ill newborns.
Our care team includes board-certified obstetricians and 24/7 access to maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists and anesthesiologists.
McAllen labor and delivery services
We are proudly recognized for our superior clinical care of women during and after childbirth. We are the recipients of the 2023 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award and Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award from Healthgrades. We are also recognized by Healthgrades as a five-star recipient for both vaginal and C-section delivery.
After delivery, we encourage bonding with rooming-in and skin-to-skin contact. We are a Texas Ten Step designated hospital and committed to increasing breastfeeding and its duration for mothers and babies. We provide comprehensive breastfeeding support, including access to certified lactation consultants to help you during the first few feedings.
Labor, delivery and recovery
Our labor, delivery and recovery suites are all private and feature amenities carefully selected for your convenience and comfort. If you experience complications during your pregnancy and require hospitalization, we care for expectant moms in dedicated private suites that are equipped with advanced technology for continuous monitoring before birth.
If you require a cesarean section, we have dedicated surgical suites within our labor and delivery unit. Additionally, we have a specialized post-anesthesia care unit (OB PACU) for recovery.
Maternity classes and hospital tours
We offer childbirth and breastfeeding classes to help you prepare for the arrival of your new baby. Our educational programs and classes are open to all members of the community. There is no charge to attend. Classes are taught once a month on Saturdays.

Neonatal intensive care
As a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we provide 24/7 access to board-certified neonatologists, neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists to care for the special needs of critically ill and premature newborns. Our specialized nursey is equipped with advanced incubation and monitoring technology to provide a range of critical care services. Additionally, our maternal and neonatal transport team is on alert 24/7 to handle the emergency air or ground transfer of high-risk infants to and from other area hospitals if a higher level of care is needed.
