The Children’s Center has more than 50 pediatricians on staff, covering all specialties, from pulmonology and neurology to pediatric surgery. Our full surgical and diagnostic capabilities are specially designed to treat children so they can have a better quality of life.
Our team provides surgical and trauma treatment for children with a wide variety of conditions. Some of our pediatric surgery specialties include:
- Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. Doctors perform a number of procedures for fractures, bone diseases, soft tissue and muscle disorders and spinal problems.
- Pediatric Neurosurgery. Our doctors with specialized training operate on the brain, spine and nervous system disorders. These may include congenital deformities or injuries and brain or spinal deformities.
- Pediatric Trauma Treatment. Injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children. We have trauma doctors who specialize in treating traumatic injury in children, knowing that children are special patients and not just smaller adults with the same injuries.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has a specially trained staff that provides care for critically ill children from infants to 18 years of age. There is also a Pediatric Step-Down area.
Our staff provides the specialized expertise of a comprehensive pediatrics team, committed to excellence and innovation in caring for our youngest patients, close to home. No other hospital in the Valley has dedicated more resources to caring for sick children than Rio Grande Regional.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Rio Grande Regional Hospital cares for premature babies and critically ill newborns in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A comprehensive team that includes board-certified neonatologists, registered nurses and certified respiratory therapists are on staff at our NICU, as well as a certified neonatal physical therapist.

Transporting from Other Hospitals
Rio Grande Regional Hospital has dedicated pediatric transportation available throughout the Valley. Some young patients need a higher level of care or services not available at other hospitals. Our pediatric transport teams bring them to and from our facility in ambulances with pediatric nurses aboard. The transport is available for all pediatric patients, including children in PICU and NICU.
Kids Express Center
Kids Express is specially designed to make the sometimes-frightening healthcare experience easier and less stressful for your child. The Kids Express Center has a specially trained staff that includes nurses skilled in treating ill children.
