What Does the Wait Time Mean?
This ER wait time reflects the time from when a patient arrives at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital Emergency Room (ER) until that patient is seen by a qualified medical professional, defined as a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).
Our wait times are calculated using a four-hour rolling average and updated every 30 minutes.
At Rio Grande Regional Hospital, we are working hard to make your ER wait times as short as possible. We have separate staffing dedicated to people whose concerns are less life threatening (but no less important). Still, there are a lot of factors that can influence how long your particular wait time might be once you arrive.
We strive to achieve short wait times, but our focus is always on providing the highest quality care possible for each ER patient.
National average wait time is one hour, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). HCA hospitals strive to beat the national average.
Don’t Forget Drive Time
If you are looking at wait times to compare ERs (now or for the future), don’t forget to consider drive time as well. In the end, what matters most is that you get the help you need as quickly as possible. A small difference in wait time might not mean much if you have to travel longer to get it. And wait times for any ER change frequently and may be different from what is posted by the time you get there.
