New visitor policies initiated

Last Updated: July 31, 2021

At Rio Grande Regional Hospital we want to provide you and your loved ones with the best healthcare experience possible. We remain diligent in our fight against coronavirus (COVID-19) and the health and safety of our patients, caregivers and communities is our top priority.

At this time, we encourage communication through virtual visitation, which is available at all of our facilities. While we understand the importance of in-hospital patients having family members and loved ones by their side, the following visitor policies are necessary in order to best protect patients and those providing care.

With each dynamic shift of the COVID-19 pandemic, we adapt accordingly and work to provide you with the most recent information.

Effective July 31st, the hospital will be revising its Visitor Health Self-Screen and Visitation protocols. This change reflects our continuous goal to maintain safe and efficient access to the facility, as well as our alignment with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding protection from COVID-19.

Updated Visitor Health Self-Screen and Visitor Policy:

  • Visiting hours are from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Only one (1) visitor per patient in non-COVID units
  • No visitors in COVID units unless extenuating circumstances exist
  • Wear a mask at all times - except when dining
  • Must self-screen before entering the facility and the visitor/patient advocate must acknowledge they DO NOT have the following signs and symptoms:
    • Fever and chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Muscle or body aches
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Fever
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Exposure to others with or suspected to have COVID-19
  • If the visitor/patient advocate answers YES to any of the health screening questions, they are NOT PERMITTED to enter the facility
  • If you answer NO to all of the health questions:
    • One (1) entry badge with the patient’s room number will be issued per visitor
    • Badge must be worn on a visible area
    • Badge must be returned upon exiting

Exceptions to the visitor policy will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If a patient or family member has an extenuating circumstance, we will work with them to help accommodate their needs.

Please note that visitation guidelines are subject to change with little notice.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and support.

Circumstances may allow for specific exceptions to any visitation restrictions described on this webpage. Those circumstances include religious visitation as well as a designated support person for a patient with a disability to provide assistance with communication or other necessary components of the patient's treatment. All persons entering under an exception remain subject to appropriate infection control protocols.
