Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s 24 Hour Emergency Care Meets The Joint Commission Accreditation Standards

On March 7, 2013, The Joint Commission (TJC) made an unannounced visit to Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s new 24 Hour Emergency Care.  TJC makes unannounced visits within six month of opening any new service area.  The purpose of the visit was to ensure the center was meeting the standards of care set forth by the accrediting board.  Joint Commission standards address the organization’s level of performance in key functional areas, such as patient rights, patient treatment, medication safety, infection control and life safety. The standards focus on setting expectations for an organization’s actual performance and for assessing its ability to provide safe, high quality care.

The joint commission surveyor was very impressed with the overall design and set up that focuses on quality and safety practices implemented at the facility.  He plans to recommend to TJC, as a leading practice, the new disinfection process for certain specialized radiology equipment that has recently been implemented at the new Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s new 24 Hour Emergency Care.

“With the rapid growth of our communities, it is very important that we continue to search for alternate ways to help meet the people’s health care needs,” said, Cris Rivera, CEO of Rio Grande Regional Hospital.  “Our new 24 Hour Emergency Care allows us reach out to our surrounding communities and provide the same high quality of care they have come to expect from Rio Grande Regional Hospital for over 30 years.”

At Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s 24 Hour Emergency Care patients can expect fast, convenient care with experienced physicians. Emergencies are never planned, but when an emergency happens, Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s 24 Hour Emergency Care - offers superior medical care, close to home.
