Rio Grande Regional Hospital is Celebrating 30 Years of Serving the Community

McAllen, Texas —HCA Affiliated Rio Grande Regional Hospital (RGRH) is excited to celebrate its 30th anniversary.  On September 27, 1982, RGRH proudly opened its doors offering high quality health care to the community of McAllen and the entire Rio Grande Valley.

Since 1982, the hospital has undergone several major changes to accommodate the growing needs of the community.  What opened as a 220 bed hospital with only 400 employees is now a 320 licensed bed hospital with over 1100 employees.  Over the years, the commitment to offer the community new and additional services close to home has remained a priority.  In 2009, the children’s service line was revamped and today, serving as the Children’s Medical Center at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, we offer an array of comprehensive medical services and specialties exclusively for children.  For instance, we are proud to be the First and Only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley with a Pediatric Heart Program.  In addition, we have also expanded our emergency services to serve as an Advanced Level III Trauma facility.

“It’s a very exciting time for us at Rio Grande Regional Hospital,” said David Elgarico, Interim CEO.  “As we celebrate our successes and our 30th anniversary, we are thrilled with the growth of our facility and the expanded services we offer to our community.  While we enjoy celebrating our progress, our primary goal has always been, and will remain, providing you with outstanding comprehensive health care services.   We would like to thank you for choosing Rio Grande Regional Hospital, the hospital you have come to trust.”
