MCALLEN, Texas  Rio Grande Regional Hospital held an Honor Walk on Feb. 20, 2026, for Michael Eric Salinas, 42, of Pharr, as colleagues, friends and family lined the hallway in tribute before he donated his heart and kidneys through Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) to help save and heal others.

Surrounded by family members, Salinas was escorted from the intensive care unit to the operating room while hospital team members paused to recognize his life, his family’s decision and the impact of organ donation.

“Michael was always the person who would step up to help — whether it was a fundraiser, at work or with friends,” said Susan Salinas, his wife. “Making this decision felt like a reflection of who he was. We know he would absolutely want to help others with this gift.”

Known as “Mike” to the people closest to him, Salinas was funny, happy and helpful to those around him, his family said.

“An Honor Walk is a moment of gratitude and respect for a life that is making a lasting difference,” said Laura Disque, CEO of Rio Grande Regional Hospital. “We are humbled to honor Mike and his family for this selfless decision. Their courage and compassion will reach far beyond our hospital, bringing hope to patients and families who are waiting.”

“More than anything, I hope Mike’s story reminds people to appreciate life — the people you love, the time you have and the moments that matter,” Susan Salinas said.
