Fredricka Borland, MD Frist Physician Humanitarian, Diana Delgado, NP Frist Employee Humanitarian, Enedina Garcia Frist Volunteer Humanitarian

Fredricka Borland,M.D., Diana Delgado, NP and Enedina Garcia, Volunteer were recently awarded Rio Grande Regional Hospital’s 2013 Frist Humanitarian Award.  This recognition is the highest honor a physician, an employee, and volunteer can receive within HCA, the parent company of Rio Grande Regional Hospital (RGRH).

The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created to recognize one physician, one employee and one volunteer at each HCA-affiliated facility who demonstrates extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community. The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA.

The 2013 HCA Frist Physician Humanitarian recipient is Dr. Fredricka Borland.  Dr. Borland came to Rio Grande Regional Hospital in December 1983 as the first woman surgeon.  Currently she is serving as the President of the Board of Trustees and has previously served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Department of Surgery.  She understands the importance of education, training and mentoring our future physicians and is known for always having a resident by her side to use every moment as a learning opportunity.  Dr. Borland is not only committed to the patients and staff of RGRH but she also assists numerous foundations and associations in our community.  For over ten years, Dr. Borland has offered free breast exams through Planned Parenthood; and she is also a proud supporter and contributor to both the American Kidney Foundation and the American Heart Association.  In her spare time, Dr. Borland enjoys golfing, scuba diving, she is an avid hunter, and has become quite an accomplished underwater photographer.

In addition, the 2013 HCA Frist Employee Humanitarian recipient is Diana Delgado, NP.  Mrs. Delgado has been an employee of Rio Grande Regional Hospital for almost twelve years working as a Nurse Practitioner at several of the hospital’s OB Clinics, helping hundreds of women during their pregnancies.  Furthermore, Mrs. Delgado has dedicated her life to helping children prevail and succeed in life.  Currently, she volunteers her time with STARS and South Texas Agricultural Round-Up to help raise funds for the FFA and 4-H clubs.  Moreover, Mrs. Delgado has also volunteered and held numerous leadership roles with CASA of Hidalgo County who speaks on behalf of the interest of children in the courts.  Even through the sadness of losing her son in 2007 at the young age of 16, Mrs. Delgado along with her husband, Honorable Judge Rudy Delgado, created the Roman Delgado Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship fund was created to provide college assistance to students wanting to further their education.  In 2013, Judge and Mrs. Delgado awarded 28 scholarships totaling $14,000.

Lastly, the 2013 HCA Frist Employee Volunteer recipient is Enedina “Dina” Garcia.  Mrs. Garcia has been a dedicated volunteer at Rio Grande Regional Hospital for eight years totaling 3,800 service hours.  Mrs. Garcia volunteers twice a week working the information desk always with a big smile while providing superb customer service.  In addition to her volunteer duties, Mrs. Garcia is the “go to” person when it’s time to plan an event because she is very efficient, organized and enjoys the planning process.  Aside from her volunteer duties at the hospital, Mrs. Garcia is an active member of the Baptist Temple Church in McAllen and she also helps her disabled friends run their errands or helps them in any way she can.

“Rio Grande Regional Hospital is committed to delivering quality patient care. We are extremely proud to recognize Dr. Fredricka Borland, Diana Delgado and Enedina Garcia for their efforts and contributions on behalf of our patients and our community,” said Cris Rivera, CEO at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.   “Their exemplary work and compassion sets a high standard for healthcare professionals.
